Scott Shire joined the Department of Aviation in 2019, and now serves as Managing Director of Aviation, Security. He oversees security functions at Las Vegas International Airport, including badging and access control, the surveillance network, and the explosive detection canine team. Additionally, Shire serves as the airport’s point of contact for security partners such as the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Shire brings to this position more than three decades worth of experience in aviation security and law enforcement. He spent 20 years as a Federal Law Enforcement Officer. In that time he worked as a Supervisory Federal Air Marshall and rose to the position of Assistant Federal Security Director for Law Enforcement. Additionally, Shire served in the Navy, having retired with the rank of captain. He has been a first responder to large-scale emergency events including the September 11, 2001, attack in New York City, Hurricane Katrina and the 1 October shooting in Las Vegas.
Shire is a proud husband and father of two incredible children. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling, snowboarding, paddle boarding and hiking. He has completed an Ironman, biked from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C., and currently serves as a swimming official for Clark County School District. A native of Pittsburgh, he is a huge fan of the Steelers and Penguins.
